The StreamSets Platform is a powerful tool. Building and managing data StreamSets pipelines can get complex, and as a result, users typically get overwhelmed by not fully understanding StreamSets’ feature set.

The Customer Success team was responsible for all customer enablement and training, where team members were conducting adhoc live training. In addition to the product rapidly evolving, the customer base and total number of users were increasing.

StreamSets needed to create a full training program that included training content for all types of users, certifications, and a learning management system to manage learners and content.

StreamSets is a popular data integration company that offers a data pipeline platform for data ingestion, processing, and transformation. The StreamSets DataOps platform provides a visual interface for designing, deploying, and managing data pipelines that enable organizations to efficiently collect, process, and move data across various sources and destinations.

StreamSets DataOps has three components: StreamSets Data Collector, StreamSets Transformer, and StreamSets Control Hub. StreamSets Data Collector collects data from multiple sources, StreamSets Transformer cleans and transforms the data, and StreamSets Control Hub deploys, manages, and monitors data pipelines.

Greenmusk started working with StreamSets in January 2020. StreamSets Academy was launched very quickly in the Spring of 2020. The Academy is a one-stop hub of learning resources for developers, administrators, and leaders that engage with Streamsets products.

The first deliverable was to create a full education roadmap for StreamSets, which included a curriculum roadmap, LMS implementation, certifications, a hands-on lab environment, and classroom delivery.

Quick Wins

Greenmusk created consistent templates for instructor slides, learner deliverables, and lab guides and then rapidly migrated original source training content into the new templates to quickly improve the student learning experience.

New Trainers

Streamsets needed a highly capable and enabled instructor team that could deliver basic to advanced classroom training. Greenmusk provided a global capability by vetting and certifying instructors after rigorous onboarding and enablement.

New Self-Paced Training

As Streamsets continued its scale, the next level of learning capability needed to be a fully self-enrolling and self-paced learning environment. Greenmusk developed over 50 training videos.

New LMS

Greenmusk implemented a learning management system (LMS) that provided users with access to the courses, as well as tracking and reporting capabilities to help StreamSets monitor the progress and success of their users. The LMS was designed to be user-friendly and intuitive, allowing users to easily navigate through the courses and track their progress.

New Learning Content

StreamSets developed online courses for data pipeline engineers, covering the fundamentals of their DataOps Platform and customized courses for real-world scenarios. The courses included practical exercises and examples to help users apply their learnings to their work.

New Certifications

As the learner base grew, certifications were introduced to measure training success. Two levels of certification exams were developed - a proctored multiple choice associate level exam and a hands-on practitioner level exam in collaboration with Streamsets subject matter experts. The exams became critical for onboarding new partners and customers.

New Lab Environment

The next learning experience enhancement was to enable learners to have a guided hands-on lab experience. As a result Strigo, an immersive learning platform, was integrated with the LMS and learners would be able to automatically access and provision a lab environment after enrolling into a course.

Proctor Integration

The certification program required independent 3rd party proctoring. ProctorU was chosen as the vendor of choice because of its biometric proctoring features. Greenmusk integrated the LMS, lab environment, and ProctorU by stitching together the systems using their APIs and StreamSets own Platform to drive the integrations.

StreamSets Academy's training programs help users acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to use StreamSets' DataOps Platform effectively.

As a result, a substantial number of learners, totaling 4,502 individuals, have benefited from the program, with 324 learners obtaining certification.

Greenmusk was vital at the beginning of streams. When we launched the academy, it helped us, in partnership, build out all of the content for instructor and self paced training as well as deliver the training classes that we needed to satisfy our customers training requirements.

Greenmusk's dedication and talent set them apart from other companies I've worked with. I've used other contracting organizations before, and they normally just do what you tell them. So if a course needed to be produced, they found creative ways to present that material using visuals and other media-based tools that were very effective and a dedication to work around problems to get a solution. Data engineering for our LMS launch is a fantastic example. Many things needed to be automated. They could program, automate, and produce material.
